PETER CAPALDI IS THE ONE TO STEP INTO MATT SMITH'S SHOES

So Peter Capaldi has been announced as the 12th Doctor in a one off special programme on Sunday 4th August and whovians have been divided in their reactions.  I've been scouring twitter all week, reading other whovians opinions and the BBC has also been posting the dividing views on their website all week, so now I feel that it’s time to look at a balanced argument for Capaldi, now we've got over the initial shock.

I think that one thing to bear in mind if you’re questioning Steven Moffat’s latest choice of the Doctor, is back to when our beloved Matt Smith took over from David Tennant. Did the whovians all welcome him? No, there was a similar debate back then as many thought that he was far too young to be The Doctor (myself included) as he was only 26 at the time and he is the Guinness Book of world records as the youngest Doctor ever. Whereas now, Peter Capaldi is being criticised for being too old to be the Doctor, which once again I find myself agreeing with because he’s older than my dad and I wouldn’t want to watch my dad running around trying to be The Doctor so why do I want to watch someone else’s dad? However, I do have to take my hat off to Steven Moffat and the team from taking this very brave leap to on older Doctor as well as choosing an established actor unlike Tennant and Smith as I’m sure when they were first announced we all thought; “…sorry who are you?” and nobody can deny that Peter Capaldi is a great actor as he has won the following awards so far in his career

1995:  Academy Award for Live Action Short Film.
2009: Chlotrudis Award for Best Supporting Actor.
2010: British Academy Television Award for Best Comedy Performance.
2010: British Comedy Award for Best Television Actor.
2012: British Comedy Award for Best Television Actor.
Which if nothing else proves that he’s going to be able to act the part very well, even is his version of The Doctor will probably very different to our beloved Matt Smith, so be prepared for a serious Doctor people because I think the days of a mad man with a box will be long gone once Capaldi takes over. That being said, I have complete faith that Moffat has chosen a brilliant Doctor and that in time will all fall in love with the 12th Doctor and a few years down the line I’ll write another blog post on why Peter Capaldi must never leave and how much we love him (even though I know I’ll never want a cardboard cut-out of him in my room)
So, hold your heads high whovians because Matt Smith is still The Doctor for now and there’s always the box sets on standby to help us through this very emotional time! But for now….

This is the story of the 11th Doctor and this is how it ends

WHO ARE YOU GOING TO BE?

This week I want to talk about the future as I find it the scariest thing to talk or even think about. There’s so much pressure on teenagers and even children to have a plan on what they’re going to and where they’re going with their lives. But what do you do if you don’t have a plan? How do you know what career you want when you’re only 17 when you’re still figuring out who you are and what you want from life now, let alone what you might want in 10 years. Some people are lucky enough to have a dream and are determined to see it through whether it's to be a doctor, a scientist, an actor, a singer, the prime minister or just happy with a family of their own, but even if you have a goal how do you get there? You won't be the only one with that dream or the only one who's good enough to get it. So what makes you stand out from the rest? Whether you have a goal or not don't despair their are pro's and cons to both but the most important thing to remember is to go with whatever's right for you. It's your life and you're only going to have one shot at it.

Scenario 1
So you're 17 and you have to decide if you want to go to university or not and what you want to study, but you have no idea what you want to do with your life yet so therefore you don't know what course you might be interested in doing or even if you want to go to university and it's not like you have ample time to decide! Universities are having open days and every adult you know keeps on pounding you with that same question;

"So what do you want to do with your life?"

The answer?

"I have no idea! I haven't figured it out yet!"

But the pressures still on so you end up rushing into the decision and a few years down the line you have a degree you don't want, thousands of pounds in debt for no reason because you didn't want that degree in the first place and then stuck in a job that...guess what...YOU DON'T WANT! So just take a moment to step back. You don't know what you want to do yet, so you don't about university yet and I'm guessing that you don't want to be thousands of pounds deep in debt for no reason. So take a step back and take a year out to decide what you want to do! You could go travelling, climb Mount Everest, volunteer in the depths of Africa to look after lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) or just stay at home, find a job to do that'll earn you a bit of money to put towards that university fund and take the time you need to "find your calling" (yep I went there) and you never know, you may decide in that year that university isn't for you, at least you took the time you took the time to figure it out in your own time instead of rushing into something that you didn't really want to do.

Scenario 2
If you do have a dream, no matter what it is, I am telling you from the bottom of my heart to pursue it with everything that you have because you only have one chance at achieving your dreams so never give up on them and never think that it'll never happen because if you work hard enough for it, then you can do anything you want. It doesn't matter if you're parents aren't completley supportive and they try to push you down a more "realistic" or "safer" route, don't blindly follow it, make your own path! (how cliche)

So my message this week is to do whatever is right for you. Don't copy anybody else, listen to the advice you're given but that doesn't mean you have to agree with it or follow it. It's your life, you live it! (...aaaaaannnnnd everyone threw up at the cheesiness) :D

Thanks xxxxx

FACE YOUR FEARS!

WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?

We all have things that we're afraid of. It be could be anything from a common fear of spiders and creepy crawlies to a phobia or even lack of self confidence but there isn't one human being on the planet that isn't afraid of anything! Some of these fears seemed to be ingrained within us and some may be possible to overcome or lessen.

This summer I am setting you all a challenge! Pick a fear any fear, it doesn't matter how big or small the fear is, but I want you to face it. If you're scared of spiders then don't charge out the room and wait for it to disappear, try putting a glass over it, scooping it up and leaving it outside to run away! You have the whole summer to pick your fear that you want to face and when you do, tweet me (@missgingerg) the fear you're facing with #FACEYOURFEARS so I know who the brave ones are! I'm not expecting you to all overcome these fears, but it's more about having the courage to take a risk and facing what scares you and if you can summon the courage to face a fear, then that's one step closer to maybe one day overcoming it!

So, what's my fear that I'll be facing you may be wondering? Mine is a fear of being judged, which is something that might be more complicated than overcoming a fear of a spider or of heights as everybody is judged by everybody else because we're all guilty of doing it to each other. So as I can't physically stop the possibility of being judged by others, I just have to stop myself from being afraid of it. Therefore, I plan to "face my fear" by doing things like going out without any make up on or without my hair being done and I know that a lot of people that may not seem like a big deal to them and you may be sitting there now thinking "well that's not scary!" but to me a dog isn't scary nor is a spider or a big rollacoaster but I struggle with self confidence and feel that I have to look as "perfect" as I can the whole time, but I wasn't always like that and fears shouldn't control your life which is why it is important to try to face them...just a little bit at a time. We're all different so we all have different fears but it's about having the courage to overcome them whilst understanding and suporting others who find different things scary, which is why I want you guys to share what fear you're facing because then we can try to help each other, so we can all be that one step closer to being more confidant human beings.

THANKS XXXX

WHO'S GOOD ENOUGH TO STEP INTO MATT SMITH'S SHOES?

CALLING ALL WHOVIANS!

So we've all heard the news by now? If you haven't heard (then you've clearly been living under a rock) but Matt Smith is stepping out of the TARDIS and The Doctor is to regenerate in the Christmas special 2013, which I'm pretty sure has left every whovian wherever they are in the world, at least a little bit heartbroken and shocked especially since Matt Smith said earlier in the year that he would be remaining in the TARDIS for series 8. So how are we going to cope I hear you ask? The only way any whovian can...speculating who is going to be the 12th Doctor!

Many people have already started to guess at who might be in the running for the next Doctor and all you have to do is type in '12th Doctor' into a Google search and you could easily spend hours reading through people's "Top Ten's" and quite frankly some of them are just ridiculous! Benedict Cumberbatch or Martin Freeman? I'm sorry but no, as much as I adore them both as actors but Benedict is Sherlock so he couldn't possibly be the Doctor and as much as I'm sure we all love Martin...I honestly couldn't picture him as The Doctor...could you? So, who's on my list? Well I'll admit to you now I have copied some other people but as I've read pretty much every article there is to read on the 12th Doctor I was bound to agree with some ideas I hadn't originally thought of myself!

1. Bradley James

Better known for his role as Arthur in the 'Merlin' series I know he may not be the popular choice as people may not be able to get over the fact that he is (and in a way always will be) King Arthur. But from his role of Arthur, I think he's shown us that he's a strong actor that can show both a serious and comical side to the character that I think that The Doctor is in desperate need for because as much as I love Matt's madness, I think  that we now need to bring a little more seriousness into the character so he's not constantly bouncing off the walls, but at the same time I think to have a particularly serious Doctor would be wrong for the show as well because it would be too much of an extreme jump from one personality to another, which is why I think that Bradley James would be the perfect happy medium...and of course he's quite handsome to say the least which I'm sure would help the girls get over Matt that little bit faster! ;)

2. Rupert Grint

First off, he's GINGER! The Doctor has always wanted to be ginger (don't blame him) so of course we have to have a ginger Doctor at some point! And yes I know he's Ron, but he's also a brilliant actor and from the other articles I've read he seems to be a popular choice and although some may argue that he's two young to be The Doctor, that was thought about our beloved Matt Smith when he first entered the TARDIS when he was 26, so in my eyes there is no reason why Rupert Grint couldn't be the next Doctor. The public already love him from his role as Ron and like my last option of Bradley James he could be serious or comical...maybe more comical and mad but that's what we know and love about The Doctor now! So why not?

3. Alexander Vlahos

Alexander Vlahos can be linked to his role as Mordrid in 'Merlin' as well as Dorian Gray in 'Confessions of Dorian Gray' so once again he is an established actor to the British public, but he is also well loved, especially for his portrayal of the villainous Mordrid. I think that he would definatly bring a serious side to The Doctor but as Mordrid had his nice side, I'm sure that we could trust him to not make The Doctor completely doom and gloom and that he would be a popular choice for the next Doctor as I'm not the only one thinking of him for the part!

4. Richard Armitage

So I am yet to see Richard Armitage crop up on any of the lists I've read, but he is certainly my favourite for the next Doctor he's older than the other options I've shown and older than our current Doctor but he's certainly got the acting experience to take on such a role. He's had a lot of roles to make him such a well established actor such as his most recent role as Thorin in The Hobbit or what seems like forever ago with his role as Guy of Gisborne in BBC TV series of Robin Hood (am I the only one who watched that? It was brilliant) and I feel that he's becoming more well known now to a wider age range of audiences so it would be perfect timing! He certainly has the charisma and the dedication for The Doctor! My only question I would have with Richard Armitage as The Doctor would be if he would make the character too serious as I've only ever seen him with quite serious characters and he appears to be quite a solemn man (but what do I know?) but he's my favourite actor so for him to play my favourite fictional character ever...not mention the fact that he's completely gorgeous so it would be a dream come true for me!

So, that is my personal shortlist if I was picking somebody to fill Matt's shoes and I'm sure that any of those four would do a fantastic job as The Doctor and they would all bring something different to the role. But unfortunately it's not down to me to decide who the next Doctor should be (wish it was) so what I want to know is whovians, who would you pick? Do you agree or disagree with my shortlist, have I missed somebody blindingly obvious or have I maybe added somebody to your personal shortlist?

Leave me a comment below and tell me what you think. Together we will make it through this incredibly traumatic time together! :)
DFTBA! ;) x

MY MAKEUP FAVOURITES!

"I Georgie Mallett...am a makeup-holic!"
There you go! I fully admit it with my hands in the air. I can't resist buying makeup...even when I don't need it! If you've ever been with me in Boots then you will know this all to well! Foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner, blush, lipstick, lip-gloss, brushes, nail polish...if it's in the makeup aisle or heaven forbid in the sale or on special offer then I will be right there and snapping it up!

I never used to be into makeup at all until about 18 months ago, I'd often not bother and go without makeup, simply because I didn't see the point, if you've got a blemish, you've got a blemish...deal with it right? But hell no, not these days and to be honest I blame the beauty gurus on YouTube. They got me hooked when they were raving about their latest "holy grail" product and sure enough I'd find myself thinking "Ooooooooh! I wanna try that!" and that's where the cycle began!
And this is just whats in my makeup bag at the minute!

But the good thing about being such a product junkie, is that I've learnt which products work for me and which ones don't work so well, so I do actually have my favourites (despite cheating on them as soon as something new comes out)....but here they are anyway!

My makeup favourites

  • Foundation - 'Revlon Colourstay'
  • Primer - 'Revlon PhotoReady'
  • BB cream - '17'
  • Powder - 'Bare Minerals Translucent powder'
  • Blush - 'Rimmel Coral Rose'
  • Pencil Eyeliner - 'Rimmel Scandeyes Waterproof Kohl'
  • Liquid Eyeliner - 'Soap and Glory SuperCat'
  • Mascara - 'Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Flared'
  • Lip products - (because I could never pick just one!)
    - Lipstick - 'Kate Moss lipstick in 111 Kiss of Life'
    - 'Rimmel Lip Stain Pen in 600 Carry on Cherry'

There you have it! My makeup favourites and although I'm sure that list will change over time in my never ending search for the holy grail products, I'm very happy with it right now, so if you're looking for a new product to try out, then maybe there's something there that you haven't tried yet? And if there's something that you love then please let me know because I'll be more than happy to check it out!

"Boots trip anyone?" ;)

THANKS :) x

The beginning....

So, here I am. Sitting here in my room , writing my very first blog post. I guess the first thing to do, is to introduce myself to you; I'm Georgie Mallett and I'm almost 17 and this blog is going to be about all things beauty and fashion related as its one of my favorite things in life. I spend wayyyyyy to much time watching all those beauty gurus on YouTube or reading beauty bloggers and standing in the makeup section in Boots surrounded by all this stuff which in reality I don't need but I just can't resist it. If I go into a makeup store, I AM leaving with something!

I decided to try my hand at writing a blog because I wanted to share my passion for fashion and beauty products, and share my hair disasters and rant about ridiculous fashion trends and all that good stuff. So I figured where better place to share my opinions than on the internet?!?! Everyone else seems to do it...right?

There will be a new blog up every Sunday, except for today, where they'll be another one up after this as this is just an intro and I'm really excited to start something new, because you never know what might happen next!

THANKS  :) x
