PETER CAPALDI IS THE ONE TO STEP INTO MATT SMITH'S SHOES

So Peter Capaldi has been announced as the 12th Doctor in a one off special programme on Sunday 4th August and whovians have been divided in their reactions.  I've been scouring twitter all week, reading other whovians opinions and the BBC has also been posting the dividing views on their website all week, so now I feel that it’s time to look at a balanced argument for Capaldi, now we've got over the initial shock.

I think that one thing to bear in mind if you’re questioning Steven Moffat’s latest choice of the Doctor, is back to when our beloved Matt Smith took over from David Tennant. Did the whovians all welcome him? No, there was a similar debate back then as many thought that he was far too young to be The Doctor (myself included) as he was only 26 at the time and he is the Guinness Book of world records as the youngest Doctor ever. Whereas now, Peter Capaldi is being criticised for being too old to be the Doctor, which once again I find myself agreeing with because he’s older than my dad and I wouldn’t want to watch my dad running around trying to be The Doctor so why do I want to watch someone else’s dad? However, I do have to take my hat off to Steven Moffat and the team from taking this very brave leap to on older Doctor as well as choosing an established actor unlike Tennant and Smith as I’m sure when they were first announced we all thought; “…sorry who are you?” and nobody can deny that Peter Capaldi is a great actor as he has won the following awards so far in his career

1995:  Academy Award for Live Action Short Film.
2009: Chlotrudis Award for Best Supporting Actor.
2010: British Academy Television Award for Best Comedy Performance.
2010: British Comedy Award for Best Television Actor.
2012: British Comedy Award for Best Television Actor.
Which if nothing else proves that he’s going to be able to act the part very well, even is his version of The Doctor will probably very different to our beloved Matt Smith, so be prepared for a serious Doctor people because I think the days of a mad man with a box will be long gone once Capaldi takes over. That being said, I have complete faith that Moffat has chosen a brilliant Doctor and that in time will all fall in love with the 12th Doctor and a few years down the line I’ll write another blog post on why Peter Capaldi must never leave and how much we love him (even though I know I’ll never want a cardboard cut-out of him in my room)
So, hold your heads high whovians because Matt Smith is still The Doctor for now and there’s always the box sets on standby to help us through this very emotional time! But for now….

This is the story of the 11th Doctor and this is how it ends
